Advent is about slowing down, spending time together, and focusing on the love and anticipation of Christmas. So this year, I teamed up with Oriental Trading Company to make a simple advent calendar out of unfinished wooden nutcrackers.
It is a simple project which only requires a little bit of paint, some ornament hooks, and two boxes of nutcrackers. One night while watching The Santa Clause as a family, I painted the numbers 1-24 on the chest of each nutcracker. Then, I set all 24 in a basket full of Christmas books, so that each day we can sit down together and indulge in a story, nuzzled by the cozy fire.
Slowing down opens up so many possibilities to savor and enjoy the excitement of the season.
