Heading back to school is such a milestone and should be met with excitement! In my post - 5 tips for transiting from summer to school, I mention that it is important to listen to your children and adjust accordingly. For my son, that means keeping the first day of school as routine as possible. We are talking a calm, collected, no big deal, regular day.
So, for us, we skip the first day of school photo. Instead, we celebrate with a family back to school party! It might not be the actual first day of school, but the photos still represent that moment in time and that matters more than creating a stressful first day of school.
This year, I was so excited to use the Back to School Neon Printable Decor Kit from my friend Paging Supermom! It is a free download and includes everything you need for the perfect large or small back to school gathering. There are invites, school tags, flags to add to treats, playmates and/or book covers, joke cards, and more!
I used the "first day of school" printable included in the kit to make a photo backdrop. I simply stuck three rows of five onto the wall behind our dinner table with removable tape. It creates a big impact with little effort and would be fun for a group photo booth! You could even save it to put it up year after year - at least save the download and use that year after year!
Whatever you do to celebrate the start of a new school year, keep it easy, keep it breezy, and keep it kid focused!
