There is a reason that people talk so fondly of New York City. It feels so small, but contains so much. The people are kind because the camaraderie is right out in the open. It is an entire city of people learning the same thing in different ways.
I am so thankful that it was this city that took me in, hugged me tightly, and saved my Matilda. Nobody knew my story, knew that I had a baby dying in the hospital, waiting for a liver transplant. But whenever I was out and about, people showed me compassion, care, and respect. Sometimes I felt like I was on the set of Sesame Street.
And, I think that is why Sesame Street is the longest running program in children's television. It has captured that unique essence of living in NYC. You know, all the good stuff rolled together. Where we all live in a world where helping others find their way, problem solve, and learn the valuable lessons of life is more important than individual gains. Where the community works together by using different skills, talents, and strategies to make the world a better place.
I know it sounds cheesy, but I really believe it. Watch this short video and you will believe it, too.
And since I love New York and believe in the research-based content provided by Sesame Workshop, in its attempt to help children everywhere reach their highest potential, I want to give away 3 copies of their newest Alphabet Songs DVD. So leave a comment below cross your fingers!
As a mom, I thought this DVD was entertaining, and enjoyed appearances from celebrities such as Norah Jones and Smokey Robinson. As an educator, I really appreciated the emphasis on vocabulary building, sound recognition, and clear vision it provided. I also liked that you can access one letter at a time or watch the alphabet in its entirety.
This post is sponsored by Sesame Workshop, but all opinions are my own.
